SAGE Eldercare has received a $5,000 grant from the Plainfield Foundation to support the SAGE Spend-A-Day adult medical day care center. The Plainfield Foundation provides grant awards to charitable organizations directly supporting residents of the City of Plainfield and Borough of North Plainfield.
SAGE Eldercare’s Spend-A-Day program is the longest running medical adult day program in the state of New Jersey and one of only a few of its kind in the region. Spend-A-Day is a medically supervised adult day health service that fosters self-esteem, mental and physical activity, and social interaction for its elderly clients. It provides a broad range of activities for frail and/or impaired older adults in a pleasant and comfortable group setting with access to contracted recreational activities, which makes Spend-A Day an appealing and viable alternative to in-home or nursing home care, as well as a worry-free source of respite and support for caregivers. In 2022, Spend-A-Day provided 5,655 hours of care for 69 participants, plus respite and support for their caregivers.
“I am grateful to The Plainfield Foundation for their support of our adult medical day care,” said Galina Muller, Executive Director “the foundation’s commitment to the community and its seniors is appreciated.”
In Union County, 21% of the population is over age 60 and almost 9% are under the poverty level. SAGE's senior programs serve those seniors requiring medical adult day care as over 90% of our clients have some level cognitive impairment due to dementia, Alzheimer's or stroke and require a nurse on staff and hand-on assistance in everyday activities. Government funding and insurance reimbursement covers 70-80% of the cost of client attendance, with the remaining funded by public support from individuals and foundation grants.
