June 13 was the eighth annual Senior Prom at SAGE Eldercare for participants of SAGE’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Care Program. The event, which had an Under-the-Sea theme, was filled with dancing, singing, laughter and treats. The main attraction was vocalist Rhonda Denet, who sang a mix of popular dance songs and classic oldies. Everyone was either on the dance floor or singing and swaying along in their seats.
A special thank you to the community support received from Lois Shanker of Right at Home in Chatham and Laurie Gaulke of Mary Kay who volunteered to do nails and makeup and Hall’s Garden Center in Berkeley Heights who donated flowers for the event.
“The prom is always a special day at SAGE,” said Susan Wirth, SAGE’s Manager of Recreation and Volunteer Outreach. “The staff works very hard to pull everything together from the invitations and flowers to the food and decorations. It’s a wonderful team effort and a great day for our Spend-A-Day participants.”
SAGE’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center provides older adults with structured social, physical and cognitive activities, meals planned by a registered dietician, and support for participants and families from a geriatric social worker. Spend-A-Day is licensed by the Department of Health and Senior Services as an adult day medical program and is staffed with a full-time nurse to medically supervise the participants. Additional support is provided by physical, occupational and speech therapists. Since 1975, SAGE’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center has been providing much-needed respite for family and caregivers and a “home away from home” for the participants, in a safe and secure environment.
