On Wednesday, November 30, SAGE Eldercare will celebrate 50 years of Meals on Wheels at Canoe Brook Country Club, 1108 Morris Turnpike, Short Hills. The RSVP deadline is Monday, November 14.
The evening will include cocktails and a dinner, as well as a few words by Kathleen DiChiara, one of the evening’s honorees. DiChiara is the founder and former President and CEO of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Another honoree is Joan Hoffmann, the longest-serving Meals on Wheels volunteer in the nation, who served with SAGE for 47 years and who passed away in April 2016.
The event will include a silent auction of about 50 items, including ticket packages for Jets, Giants, and Yankees games, a race car driving experience, spa and beauty-related packages, entertainment and dining certificates, a Macy’s Thanksgiving parade experience for 2017, gifts, and more. A flag flown over the New Jersey capitol, along with a proclamation to congratulate SAGE for its Meals on Wheels 50th anniversary, will be presented from Congressman Leonard Lance’s office. Brian Cavallucci, Subaru of America’s National Advertising Manager, will speak about Subaru’s support of Meals on Wheels and the Share the Love project. The Junior League of Summit will provide fruit center pieces which will then be donated to Bridges Outreach and the Grace Community Refrigerator.
SAGE serves about 44,000 meals to nearly 250 clients annually in 10 communities, all of which have issued proclamations to celebrate the Meals on Wheels 50th anniversary.
